VévésA vévé is a powerful magical symbol that represents a specific lwa. As such, reproduction of these symbols — with flour or corn starch on the ground of an ounfò; painted on the walls of the ounfò, or embroidered on a drapo — are made with specific intent: to bless the ceremonial space, and to summon the lwas. With roots in the sacred ritual ground drawings used in Central and West African temples, vévés are one of the most beautiful and potent tools used during ceremony to draw down celestial forces. |
